What is Essentrics®?

Technically the company name, Essentrics®, is a play on words, specifically on the term eccentric training from the fitness industry. In eccentric training you lengthen the muscle under tension, as opposed to concentric training which is typically done in strength classes with the use of handheld weights. In Essentrics® classes we never use dumbbells but through various techniques based on physiotherapy, we lengthen all of the muscles of the body and then allow gravity to make them stronger as we move to music, performing various movements that mimic activities of daily living. The effect of this is improved posture, core stability and muscular strength with an increase in mobility, and flexibility and a reduction in joint pain.
I have been teaching fitness for over 25 years, and the hard truth is the general population is not stretching enough. Sure, many of us try to keep active as best as we can with regular walking, biking or playing sports like pickleball, golf and tennis but unless there is an equal amount of time spent on stretching out those hard-working muscles, you are at risk for overuse injuries. I know this to be true because I have experienced this in my own life. I continue to teach all types of classes from weightlifting to dance and everything in between and the one thing that keeps me injury free are my Essentrics® classes.
Why?
Because the trademarked sequences hydrate the fascia surrounding each muscle which makes it easier for them to slide and glide smoothly against each other. Stated simply, Essentrics® makes movement easier, pain free and more enjoyable.
I will be accepting new students in my classes begining at the end of September. Contact me for more details.
