Several people have asked me why I write this blog? They have suggested that I may be giving too much of myself away for free. This is a very real concern and I understand where they are coming from but I do it for two reasons.
- I have so much practical experience teaching fitness that I feel a responsibility to share my knowledge with others. Yes, I am writing a fitness book and one day I will have it ready for sale but until that time, I want to share my opinions with my current students so that they can benefit today. Yes, someone could be stealing my thoughts and words and be marketing them as their own. Unfortunately this is part of working online. All I can do is live my life with integrity and honesty and hope that my audience is doing the same. The writing on this blog is copyrighted material.
- Though I hope to be teaching fitness forever, my plan is to transition into a writer. Writing this blog several times a week forces me to put my writing hat on and produce. I have maintained this blog and Better Balance with Beth Oldfield, since April 2015. Most people thought that I would give up after a few weeks but I have loved every minute. Yes, it is very hard to come up with valuable things to write about and that is why I no longer post five days a week ( though I still try).
My blogging success has given me the confidence to submit two short stories to a contest. I will find out how I did in April, 2017. This was a huge step for me because I have always been too afraid to share my stories with friends and family. The response has been heart warming which proves to me that I am on the right path. I was terrified about starting this blog but it has worked out well for me and my students.
