I’m different. Perhaps because I’ve been small all of my life and considered to be weak due to my size, I know better than to judge anyone based on their body shape. So when I come across video’s of dancers doing amazing things, I’m just as blown away by small dancers as I am by large ones. I simply don’t see size. What I see is incredible talent.

As a line dance instructor I often go to Youtube to find new material to share with my clients. This week I found two video’s of men dancing and I was immediately impressed. I only have a few men in my dance classes so it encouraged me to see this and I started dancing right along with the video!  I then found the steps for the dances and prepared to teach them to my students. I also sent the videos along to my students for them to enjoy.

More than one of the students came back with comments about the size of the dancers and it completely shocked me. The comments were not mean but just the fact that they brought up their size, instead of how great they were moving, disappointed me.

I also get this from students in their 50’s who hear that I train people in their late 70’s and early 80’s.  Before they even give the class a try, they have decided that they do not want to be with “old” people.  Again, I am shocked.

So I see that I’m a different and that is a good thing!  I do my best to motivate people of all sizes and ages to get moving and exercising. Their strength, determination and talent continues to inspire me on a daily basis.

Maybe we are all taking ourselves a little too seriously?
