As we head back to classes today I want you to keep three important tips in mind.

  1. We can’t make up for the last four weeks off, in one class or in one week. I often see clients come back from vacation full of energy but some of them push themselves too hard, too fast. We can get injured this way and give up our goals completely. “Rome was not built in a day.” Take it one day at a time and remember to listen to your body. If something feels wrong, don’t push it on your first day back and speak to the trainer for advice.
  2. Try a new class. We tend to get into a rut with our exercise routines. It is a New Year and a great time to step out of your comfort zone. Remember to introduce yourself to the instructor and tell her any concerns you may have about your health. They should be able to guide you to having your best experience on this first day back.
  3. Hang in there! The gym will be crowded this first week back. I typically meet about 10 new people in any given session of 12 weeks and I would say only about half are still there by the second week.
